LittleOldLady Rides Again

Filed under: Uncategorized — lol @ 10:17 pm

Up until this summer I was a regular poster on a major poker website sponsored by the publisher of my son’s books. When certain individuals connected with this website disrespected my son, I stopped posting. Recently, however, it came to my attention that some of the regular posters expressed appreciation for my posts and even wished that I would return. Well, neither I nor the other members of my family will return to that website, but there’s really no reason for me to stop speaking. So here I am, ready to discourse on my favorite topic and anything else that comes to my mind. I am on my own turf now, so I don’t have to exercise the restraint necessary on a public forum. Feel free to ask me any questions or comment on whatever I have to say. And don’t go running to my son to tell him his mother is being outrageous. He knows his mother, and this blog was his idea anyway.

Would you be mad if you were given a fake diamond for your engagment ring?

Somehow I didn’t think the picture at the top of your blog would be a dainty flower. I don’t know what I expected, but that photo and this color scheme sure wasn’t it.

FWIW, I’d delete the 2nd sentence. Nothing really positive can come of it, and I suspect anyone who cares enough to find this site knows what’s up anyways.

    I hope all is well.

Since I was only engaged for three days the first time and got NO engagement ring and since I was only engaged a month the second time and got a blue topaz ring I ended up paying for myself after my fiance was killed, I wouldn’t get mad about any sort of ring or none at all. I personally do not particularly care for diamonds and prefer colored stones (I recently bought myself an amethyst ring), and a fake diamond solves the problem of inadvertently wearing a blood diamond (which really would disturb me). If I were a young man contemplating marriage. I would think twice about a woman who was overly invested in the idea of an expensive engagement ring. FWIW in three generations of my family no wife had an engagement ring, and all the marriages were long and happy–except for mine which was just long.

    Hi Dave–

Thanks for the advice about that sentence, but it’s there because apparently some people think I was banned, and for the record I shut up on my own accord, extremely unhappy with the way my family was treated.

As for the flower, well, Edward set up this format, and I am sure he chose that flower because the purple Dutch iris is my very favorite. It’s also appropriate (although I doubt if this entered Edward’s mind) because, at least in some circles the iris is the symbol of female genitalia due to its appearance (see Georgia O’Keefe). As for the purple (well, lavender) color scheme, purple is the color of the post-menopausal crone who finally dares to wear it (see all those purple dress-red hat ladies of which I am not one but could be). Although combined with the yellow it does look a bit Easter-eggy….

Anyhow I am OK, and should you come through Philly on business, let me know and I’ll buy you a drink.
Happy holiday season to you and Jo–and to anyone else who might be reading….

That’s the first thing I thought of when I saw it ;) I told Ed, “That theme is perfect for your mom’s blog. She picked a winner.” He said he chose it for you because it’s your favorite flower.

I’m really glad your blogging and I hope you enjoy it.

    A bit more on irises–

A friend of mine just emailed me to say that he “got” the iris immediately, but he also noted that the Louisiana wild iris (which carpets the swamps in the spring) is very similar to the Dutch iris. So the iris resonates for me on yet another level.
